If you want to feel the energy from real professional forex trader I suggest opening managed forex account.

It doesn?t matter you are newbie or with a lot of experience. Managed account can reward you and let me explain why.

At first it is really hard to make money in forex because you must know how to invest your money smart read charts and spend all your free time studying. But that?s not all; even after long time of studying you can lose all your money in the end.

But with managed forex account you can increase your chances.

I can tell you honestly, if you can afford to invest money in managed accounts, go and do it.

Of course it is very hard to choose best managed account. The same like choosing the right broker.

There are a lot of high skilled professionals who are willing to help you.

But why they want to help you in the first place?

It is very simple to answer, because of money. They make money because you make money.

I can ask the same question too.

Why other people are helping each other? Why such services like ?car repair?, ?hair cutter? exist?

Because they can offer quality services for you and you will pay a lot of money. That?s all.

You must understand that you are the one who is responsible to invest your own hard earned cash.

Managed account experts have a lot of experience and tested strategies. They do things that work and you both get benefit from it.

The greatest part is that they still follow your guidelines and implement the tactics that they know.

The biggest benefit I found is that you are dealing with real professional.

This is the best opportunity for you to work with fx guru.

It is the same like playing basketball with Michael Jordan.

You will learn a lot and trust me it is not about money you earn. Of course you will earn money, I never met person who was not able to make money working together with high skilled professional but you also learn how to do it in the smart way. It is something like hiring mentor and he teaches you everything he knows and you also make money.

I don?t know other option available for forex traders that can help you make money and learn. Forex managed account is the only one solution you can think of.

The biggest problem is how to choose the person you want to work with. Like I said before it is the same like choosing the right broker.

Remember that 90% of all brokers or managed forex accounts professionals are not what you really want.

Only few of them will help you to save time and money.

You have to know one more thing. Managed account belongs to you only.

This forex trading system account will be in your name and you can take out all your money any time you want.

I also know another type of managed forex account without professional guru involved.

The most interesting part is that these accounts are managed by robot software. This robot doesn?t have emotions like we humans do. Even forex trading experts fail because they can?t handle their emotions. This robot software is created by the same forex trading experts. This device looks at statistics and data to make best decision for you. These machines are also managed by people; they are not left alone like ?stand-alone? computers, because sometimes errors can mess up everything. Of course robot play safe with your money and you can consider this option too.

But remember one more thing.

You can change humans in the jobs that need hard work, but not there you need human brain.

It is up to you what to choose, but I will bet on the real human. Open managed forex account and start trading together with real person.

Machines can break and you will not learn from them.

I wish you best luck.

#Amwriting (dot org) - Why I'm Not Writing As Much As I Should

I haven?t been writing as much lately, though I am working on a book. It?s an interesting project, and one I think my friends in the #amwriting community might be interested in.

I live in the vibrant town of West Chester, Pennsylvania. We are situated in the center of Chester County, a beautiful historic region with rolling hills and horse farms. Fox hunting, cycling and canoeing down the Brandywine are some of the most popular pursuits. We are also home to art and entertainment personalities as diverse as Andrew Wyeth, Bam Margera, Longwood Gardens and the electronic retailer QVC.

Over the past few years, a community of writers has formed around critique groups and our local story slam. So in January of 2011, I made a list of local fiction writers I?ve come to know and admire. These writers all share a passion for crafting short stories. Some of the writers I?ve worked with professionally over the years, others I?ve met through the local groups and Twitter. Each writer is someone seriously pursuing the craft, though we all have different genres and styles.?After making this list I reached out to each writer and asked if they would contribute a story for a collection called Chester County Fiction. I was thrilled when everyone said ?yes!?

Two other friends who are professional editors agreed to edit each story and draw out the author?s voice. For the cover, graphic designer Larry Geiger offered to create one of his unique designs. As we sat at Iron Hill Brewery discussing the project, Larry deemed we needed a photographer and David James soon joined the collaborative effort.

This is not a collection as much as it is a sampler of the writers living and working in our community. Most of the stories are set in Chester County. All of the stories are solid examples of local writers who are hard at work defining their own voice over the course of a lifetime.

Short stories were all? turned in by June 30th. We edited and returned the stories to authors. Second and third drafts were passed back and forth. Round one of proofing has been done with round two commencing this week. We are in the final sprint.

After our book launch, we will hold a few events in our awesome local independent bookstores and art galleries. After six months, we?ll count out the money earned and the collaborative team will vote on what we should do with the profits. We may throw a party or donate the money to a local literacy campaign. If we?re lucky, we?ll have enough to do both! But we?re not doing this for the money.

Courtesy of Baldwin's Book Barn

The book launch for Chester County Fiction will be held on October 2nd, from 2p.m. to 5p.m. at Baldwin?s Book Barn. Baldwin?s Book Barn is an iconic Chester County landmark and possibly the best used book store in the country.

YOU are cordially invited!

My question is: Is there a local book movement in your area?

Being trendy of Condominiums in the ... - real estate sun shine coast

Condominium is a type of housing in which ownership of a single unit or a house belongs to an individual or a group of people while the rest of the condominium is jointly owned by all the owners. This particular type of ownership or housing tenure had gained a lot of popularity in the Philippines, in which many of today?s modern Filipino lives in a condominium unit. So what are the reasons why condominiums are so popular in the Philippine market?

Popularity of Condominiums in the Philippines

Other than the fact that that these types of housings are far more affordable compared to townhouses, while offering a more permanent home compared to apartment units, condo in Philippines also became popular in the Philippines because of its location, in which these types of housings are normally found in business and commercial districts.

The Advantage of its Location

Most condo in Philippine today are found in business and commercial districts, such as those found in Makati City as well as in other popular business districts around Metro Manila. Because of this, residents are given the luxury of living within walking distance from their workplaces, allowing them to easily and conveniently access their offices while avoiding the usual hassles of morning rush hour.

Other than in offices, condominiums are also within reach of popular entertainment places avenues such as malls, shopping centers, bars, and many others. These are the reasons why most Filipinos living in a condominium unit are wealthy families or individuals, company executives, as well as high-wage earners.

However, condominiums are the only types of housings found in these locations. There are also other popular types of modern housings found in business and commercial districts such as apartment buildings and townhouses. But other than its location, condominiums also became popular because of its other benefits, such as its collection of amenities.

It?s Collection of Amenities

According to many real estate experts, condominiums are the only types of residential Philippines properties for sale found in business and commercial districts that can offer facilities such as swimming pools, gyms, and even a full-size sports complex.

Because of these amenities, many Filipinos found these types of housings appropriate for their needs, particularly when it comes to relieving their stresses from work.

However, there are a number of new benefits that many new condominiums are known to offer in the market that made it even more popular and in-demand in the Philippines. This is because of its new terms of payment.

New Payment Terms

Many new condominiums in the Philippines today can offer a new payment term in which these new condominium units can now be owned and paid in installment. Because of this, condominiums became even more popular compared to apartment units in terms of cost-efficiency. For more information visit to our site at http://www.avidaland.com

Review: Stalk flat surfaces to make sweet music with the Tunebug ...

Imagine you?re somewhere fairly quiet. Your den on a Sunday afternoon. A cubicle in an empty office*. A hotel room in a strange city. You only have your phone to play music on, and it?s got a sucky built-in speaker. You don?t want to wear headphones. Plug the Tunebug Vibe into its headphone socket and make its sound output a bazillion times better.

Remembering that this massive, massive number of ?a bazillion? is calculated off a low base (phone speakers? outputs are generally rated at about SFA**) so while the Tunebug is way better, don?t get your hopes up of thumping mids and sweet highs that blow you away.

The sound is useable. I happily listened to the commentary on the video of the first half highlights of the SA vs Wales game from my phone with the Official RWC 2011 app. You can use it to play music in a pinch. But that?s just the start: most of the Tunebug Vibe?s joy lies in its entertainment value. You can spend endless fun-filled hours trying all the different resonant cavities that you have lying around to see what sounds best.
Tunebug Vibe

Mass equals intertia equals energy transfer
You see, its corners are rounded and surface polished, but the unit is basically a pretty heavy steel chunk. It has a vibrating plunger on the bottom that touches the surface it?s resting on, transmitting the sound into it. It?s heavy, so it also stretches the surface, a bit like a drum-head. It works best on hard, but thin and springy surfaces that enclose a volume of air. So a thick desk or hard wooden floor tiles will not sound nice. Light. Hard. Hollow.

Experimenting, I found best results from a small, rectangular tupperware container (3?*3?*8?). An old empty ice-cream container was loud, but hollow. A medium sized steel bowl was tinny.

If the little tupperware came first, the hard cardboard box the Vibe is stored in comes second as a sound box ? it?s a good default. The box has a graphic design on the top that pretty much says, ?Stick the shiny metal thing here, it?s what it was made for.?

It?s cool, it?s not miraculous. It is battery powered (rated at 5 hours), charged through a special cable that has a regular big USB plug on end end and a modified 3.5mm jack on the other that plugs into the Vibe?s single input jack, located on the vertex of the chromed triangular metal puck.

Boo, Tunebug! Standard cables!
This means a special cable to lose: it would have been a much better design if Tunebug had drilled an extra hole below the audio jack to let you charge it with a standard micro USB plug (type AB, if we?re going to get picky). Now that micro USB is a standard connector for most modern mobiles, loads of people have them lying around. That?s designed-in versatility.

Tunebug Vibe baseSound is heavily coloured, and it?s probably not as loud as more conventional units with a speaker driver rather than acoustic transducer. Products like the Shox mini are louder, although they also colour the sound a lot. If you find a nice sounding box for the Vibe, or even if you use its carry box (not the retail packaging, dumbass) it?s fine ? I listened to a whole Ramones best-of on it, then the Yeah Yeah Yeahs ?Show Your Bones?.

It?s pretty small ? the Shox mini is 13.5x10x4cm, the Tunebug is 5.9cmx2.5cm ? although that is a bit of a gyp, you?re always going to travel with it in its box in case your hotel room or office cubicle has no handy light empty boxes (a closed empty milk carton can do in a pinch). The box is 8.3?8.3?2.8cm. Still smaller than the Shox. But just over double its weight at 150g vs 80g.

Who it?s for:

  • Gadget nuts
  • People that travel a lot and use their mobiles/mp3 players for sound and don?t want to mess with cables and chargers.
  • It?s not for people wanting louder speakers for your laptop ? only the crappiest of laptops? built-in speakers would sound worse.
  • If you?re a bit nuts you can gaffer tape it to the back of your motorbike helmet, the backmost point I found worked best. If you?re a mountain biker you can get the Tunebug Shake which is a helmet with the device built in. Looks rad.

What we liked:

  • Looks cool, feels unbreakable
  • Pretty decent sound quality if you have the right stiff light box
  • No mess, no fuss convenient

What we didn?t like:

  • Because it vibrates it can walk around on your surface, leading to possible wasted minutes or hours building complicated holding-in-place contraptions
  • It needs a micro USB charger socket to make it genuinely always-there awesome
  • Tunebug do oversell it a bit, they are a hardcore product-shifting Web 2.0 operation with local affiliates and Facebook groups and everything. Tr?s slick.

* Empty. You use this thing in an occupied office and you will be killed.

South African fossils halfway between ape and human

Two fossil skeletons of early humans appear to mark a halfway stage between primitive "ape-men" and our direct ancestors. A year of detailed study has revealed that the skeletons are a hodgepodge of anatomical features: some bones look almost human while others are chimpanzee-like.

The two fossils, an adult female and a juvenile male, were discovered in the Malapa cave system near Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2008. Both about 1.2 metres tall, they are unusually complete and well-preserved and date from 1,977,000 years ago. Excavated by Lee Berger of the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, and colleagues, they were given the name Australopithecus sedibaMovie Camera.

Australopithecines were early hominids that lived between 4 and 2 million years ago: the best-known fossil example is a 3.2-million-year-old Australopithecus afarensis skeleton found in Ethiopia and nicknamed Lucy. Unlike chimpanzees and other apes, they walked on two legs, but their brains were still small. Not until Homo erectus evolved, around 1.8 million years ago, did larger brains appear.

Together with a large team of researchers, Berger has spent the last year intensively studying the two A.?sediba skeletons. He says they are unusually advanced for an Australopithecus, and may show how the australopiths evolved into humans.

Brainy

One area of particular interest is the brain size. So far, the male skull has been excavated. It's also been named: South African schoolchildren chose the name Karabo, which means "answer" in the Setswana and Sotho languages of southern Africa. Kristian Carlson of the University of the Witwatersrand and colleagues used synchrotron scans to build a detailed 3D image of the inside of the skull, allowing them to calculate the shape of Karabo's brain.

This was small even for an australopith, with a volume of just 420?cubic centimetres. A.?afarensis, by contrast, averaged 459?cc, despite being an earlier species. That suggests there was no overall increase in brain size over the course of australopith evolution.

But Carlson says A.?sediba's brain had been subtly reorganised. The orbitofrontal region, which sits just behind the eyes, is a different shape to those of other australopiths and apes, and may have been rewired into a more human-like design.

Carlson draws particular attention to an area called the inferior frontal gyrus, which has bulged out in A.?sediba. In modern humans this area is important for language processing, hinting that A.?sediba had advanced communication skills.

Carlson remains cautious, however, pointing out that spoken language relies on adaptations like vocal cords. Although neck bones were part of the find, they have not yet been studied in detail, so we don't know if A.?sediba was built for speech.

We need to treat the brain studies with great caution, says Robert Barton of Durham University in the UK. "Interpretation of surface features of brains is fraught at the best of times," he says, "but on individual specimens that are merely impressions of the original brain and millions of years old to boot?"

Handy

A second group led by Tracy Kivell of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany, looked at A.?sediba's hands. The fingers are long, thin and slightly curved, just like those of apes, which would have allowed A.?sediba to grip branches firmly.

But the thumb is proportionately longer than in apes, a distinctly human trait that would have allowed A.?sediba to grip small objects precisely. Kivell says these hands may have made and used stone tools. So far no tools have been found, but tool use by human-like ancestors dates back at least 2.5 million years.

Other groups have focused on the pelvis, feet and ankles. They all come to the same conclusion: A.?sediba is halfway between Australopithecus and Homo. Berger says it's not surprising that the fossil is a confusing mixture, pointing out that that is exactly what we would expect in a transitional fossil.

Where in Africa?

The finding cements the importance of South Africa in human evolution, says Chris Stringer of the Natural History Museum in London, UK. Many of the most famous hominin fossils have been found in east Africa, in places like the Rift Valley, but more and more have since appeared in the south.

Stringer says we can't judge which area humans actually evolved in, because so many of the east African fossils are fragmentary and can't be compared with the A.?sediba skeletons. It may be that humans evolved in the east and then spread south, or the other way round.

A third possibility, however, is that there were many different lines of humans evolving alongside each other, and perhaps occasionally interbreeding. Once modern humans left Africa we know they interbred with Neanderthals and other hominins, and earlier this week evidence emerged that Homo sapiens also interbred with other species while still in Africa. So it may be that there was not one population or species that led to modern humans, but several.

BPG Oklahoma | Pre Retirement Planning

Pre retirement planning is the process you?ll need to complete if you hope to retire at an early age with a sufficient amount of money. While some people are proactive in the planning steps, the majority simply waits to begin the planning process until too much time has passed. While those who wait can still save for the retirement years, they typically won?t be able to retire when they would like and they may be cutting it a little too close with the amount that needs to be saved. The much better option for you is to begin the pre retirement planning steps as soon as possible so that you will reap the immense rewards that these plans can offer to you. Here are the ways that you can get started and the benefits to be experienced from doing so.

The Importance of Goals

You can?t begin contributing to retirement accounts unless you set proper plans for what you want life to be like when you arrive to the post-working era. One of the first goals you will likely want to set is determining when you would like to retire by using a retiring plan calculator. By knowing the age at which you would like to stop working, you can then begin the pre planning process for how much you will need to start saving to turn that dream into reality.

Another important pre plan step to consider is determining how much you will need to live comfortably during the golden years. If you plan to lead the same lifestyle as you are living now, then you may only need the range that is close to the current income that you are earning. However, if you plan to travel often or want to move to a retirement resort, you may require more of an income to match this more expensive life style. These and other pre retirement planning goals can be essential for determining how much money you should start saving.

Benefits of Early Planning

The benefits you can receive from taking the necessary pre retirement planning actions can be immense. Again, those who follow the proper pre plan steps are much more likely to achieve the goals that they have set. Whether this means you will be able to retire at an early age or save more for the retirement years, achieving your goals can be immensely important. Next, by completing the pre retirement planning process now, you will be ensuring that the nest egg accounts you open will have as many years as possible to grow. This can ensure that you will be saving more for the golden years and that you will be able to retire when you would like.

Accounts to Consider

After you set the pre retirement planning goals such as determining when you would like to retire, the next step is to determine how you can begin achieving those goals. First, you?ll need to select the retirement accounts that you would like to begin investing in. The pre planning process needs to include a prompt account selection since you won?t be able to begin building your nest egg until you?ve selected a place into which you can invest. Everything from 401k workplace plans to Roth IRA accounts are available for most people to being investing into.

Being Proactive

If you truly want to maximize the pre retirement planning benefits, your best option is likely to begin investing into more than one account. By pre planning properly and investing in such options as both a 401k and a Roth IRA, you can maximize your contributions and ensure you have saved enough by the time that retirement arrives. By being proactive and beginning the pre steps needed to plan for the golden years, you can retire sooner with more money than you will likely need to live comfortably during the post working years.

In more socially engaging environment, white fat turns to brown, mouse study suggests

ScienceDaily (Sep. 6, 2011) ? When mice are given a more engaging place to live with greater opportunities for social stimulation, some of their energy-storing white fat is transformed to energy-burning brown fat. As a result, the animals expend more energy and lose weight even as they eat more. The findings reported in the September Cell Metabolism point to the powerful effect that animals' social and physical environments can have on their metabolisms.

"I'm still amazed at the degree of fat loss that occurs," says Matthew During of The Ohio State University. "The amount that comes off is far more than you would get with a treadmill."

"After four weeks in the enriched environment, the animals' abdominal fat decreased by fifty percent," added Lei Cao, also of Ohio State.

The standard laboratory mouse lives what might be considered a "couch potato" existence, Cao says. They are kept comfortable with an endless supply of food and water and a few potential playmates. But they don't have much of anything to do.

In the enriched environment, animals live in larger groups of 15 to 20 animals. They have more space as well as wheels to run on, mazes to navigate and toys to play with.

"We often think of stress as a negative thing, but some kinds of stress can be good for your health," Cao says. In fact, she says, the enriched housing is more taxing for the animals as they have to deal with each other and with a more complex environment.

The new study follows on one reported in Cell last year by the same research team showing that more complex housing also has profound and beneficial effects on cancer. The researchers had also shown that an enriched environment leads to improved cerebral health as defined by increased production of new neurons, enhanced learning and memory, and greater resistance of the brain to insults. The key in all cases seemed to be an increase in the brain's production of a growth factor known as brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF).

Cao and During had also noted previously that the mice showed changes in their fat tissue and grew leaner than animals living under standard conditions. They now trace that leaner build to an increase in brown fat.

Fat comes in one of two types: white or brown. White fat is the kind we generally try to keep off as it stores all those extra calories. Brown fat burns energy to generate heat. It is perhaps best known for keeping babies warm, but scientists have now realized that adults do retain active brown fat. We can be made to produce more brown fat through exposure to cold or activation of the sympathetic nervous system. The new study suggests a more engaging environment is another, perhaps more effective path to increasing brown fat.

"It's usually hard to induce the switch from white to brown fat," During says. "It takes months of cold -- you really have to push -- and it doesn't induce brown fat to the same degree as what on the surface appears to be a relatively mild change in physical and social environments."

Animals made to produce more BDNF in their brains also show the increase in brown fat and weight loss observed in those living in an enriched environment.

The new result may offer insight into studies showing a link between loneliness and ill health, Cao says. "Loneliness is a profound factor for cancer and death; it's on par with cigarette smoking," she says. "Social engagement is very important."

Although it isn't yet clear why, the new study shows fat to be one of the organs most responsive to changes in the environment. The findings might therefore have important lessons for us about the causes of the obesity epidemic we now face.

"It's not just a sedentary lifestyle and high calorie foods, but an increasing lack of social engagement," During says, as online networking and social media have replaced more dynamic, face-to-face social interactions.

EBay hires ex-Thomson Reuters executive Wenig (Reuters)

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) ? EBay Inc hired former Thomson Reuters Corp executive Devin Wenig as president of its global marketplaces unit, the online commerce and auction site's largest division.

Wenig, 44, was chief executive of Thomson Reuters Markets, one of the company's top managers, before leaving in a shakeup of the division in July. [ID:nN1E76K26G] At eBay, he will report to Chief Executive John Donahoe, the online auction and commerce site said on Tuesday.

As head of eBay Marketplaces, Wenig will oversee the namesake online marketplace, eBay classifieds sites in more than 1,000 cities and the secondary ticket website StubHub.

The position is one of the most important at eBay. Donahoe held it before he became CEO in March 2008.

"Those of you that know me well know that I have always looked westward, to the excitement, innovation, and impact of Silicon Valley. I came close to going once before and always believed that there would come a time for me to do a turn in the Valley," Wenig wrote in an email.

Wenig led the integration of the unified Thomson Reuters Corp after Thomson bought Reuters in 2008, eBay said. At eBay, he will oversee the company's largest division, which generated more than 60 percent of revenue last year.

Still, the division lost market share in recent years as shoppers moved away from auctions as a way to buy online and competition from Amazon.com increased.

EBay is now trying to build the business into a broad supplier of technology and support for merchants' online and mobile-commerce efforts.

U.S. civilian engineer found dead in Kabul (Reuters)

KABUL (Reuters) ? The body of a U.S. civilian engineer has been found in the Afghan capital, an Afghan intelligence source told Reuters on Tuesday, adding that the man who worked on a military base appeared to have been murdered.

The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force said late on Monday that a U.S. Department of Defense civilian employee had died that day in eastern Afghanistan.

Security is tight in Kabul, even though violence is rising across other parts of the country, and it is rare for a foreigner to go missing in the capital.

Foreign military bases and diplomatic missions are among the most secure premises in the city, protected with high blast walls and coils of razor wire to ward off attackers.

Foreigners who work on these bases usually travel in convoys or under guard because of the threat of attack and kidnappings, a lucrative business in impoverished Afghanistan.

Scores of locals and foreigners have been abducted in recent years by criminals with financial motives and by Taliban-linked insurgents.

The Taliban struck last month when they raided a British cultural center in Kabul on the 92nd anniversary of Afghanistan's independence from British rule. Nine people were killed during the hours-long assault.

Afghan forces have had responsibility for security in the city since 2008, but there are hundreds of NATO forces stationed in and around the capital, and they are regularly called on to help during complex attacks.

Smallest motor is single molecule

Researchers have created the smallest electric motor ever devised.

The motor, made from a single molecule just a billionth of a metre across, is reported in Nature Nanotechnology.

The minuscule motor could have applications in both nanotechnology and in medicine, where tiny amounts of work can be put to efficient use.

Tiny rotors based on single molecules have been shown before, but this is the first that can be individually driven by an electric current.

"People have found before that they can make motors driven by light or by chemical reactions, but the issue there is that you're driving billions of them at a time - every single motor in your beaker," said Charles Sykes, a chemist at Tufts University in Massachusetts, US.

"The exciting thing about the electrical one is that we can excite and watch the motion of just one, and we can see how that thing's behaving in real time," he told BBC News.

Miniature uses

The butyl methyl sulphide molecule was placed on a clean copper surface, where its single sulphur atom acted as a pivot.

The tip of a scanning tunnelling microscope - a tiny pyramid with a point just an atom or two across - was used to funnel electrical charge into the motor, as well as to take images of the molecule as it spun.

It spins in both directions, at a rate as high as 120 revolutions per second.

But averaged over time, there is a net rotation in one direction.

By modifying the molecule slightly, it could be used to generate microwave radiation or to couple into what are known as nano-electromechanical systems, Dr Sykes said.

"The next thing to do is to get the thing to do work that we can measure - to couple it to other molecules, lining them up next to one another so they're like miniature cog-wheels, and then watch the rotation propagation down the chain," he said.

As well as forming a part of the tiniest machines the world has ever seen, such minute mechanics could be useful in medicine - for example, in the controlled delivery of drugs to targeted locations.

But for the moment, Dr Sykes and his team are in contact with the Guinness Book of World Records to have their motor certified as the smallest ever.

Federal Grants for home improvement?..?

Federal Grants for home improvement?..?I questioned this in another catergory and figured that maybe I had it posted in the incorrect spot?.

I see advertisements for federal grants that do not have to be paid back that are for everything from small business funding to home improvements. I was wondering if anyone has ever received a grant for home improvement and how you apply and/or be eligible to receive one. Basically, how do I get one to do home improvements and renovations??

ps? we aren?t low income but not high income either, don?t know if that makes a difference.

Answer by Nichole
There are not grants for individuals. There were some in Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina, but those have been used up. The guy with the ??? on his suit is lying. . . there are not grants for people to start a business . . . grants, while they don?t have to be paid back have something you have to accomplish, or a commitment you have to fulfill that makes it a worthy investment . . . . there are grants for non profit organizations and research institutes, but not for individuals.

If you still want to do research about it, go to www.grants.gov . . . it is the database for grants.

There is another person on Yahoo Answers that does a excellent job of explaining things as well, I hope he/she answers your question. He/She might can clarify things better than me! There ID is imisidro.

Excellent luck!

looking for federal grants?i am looking for information on low-income home improvement grants

Answer by dlg3rati
HUD has that!
this is a Government website.

I would advice you, but, not to keep your hopes up with regards to getting grants. There are very few grants available for personal uses ? and even for low income, grants are often not given directly to the individual but to the local government or a non profit establishment.

You can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Help (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov ? these are two FREE sites made by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support your purposes.

Even if you buy books on ?how to get grants? or list that supposedly has information on grants ? all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit packaged differently.

Note though that these grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments. Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups with specific requirements (e.g. minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanating from DOT ? Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Small Term Lending Program. Individuals especially for personal purposes are not eligible for federal grants.

Grants are also often given to non profit groups or organizations involved in training or other similar activities (grant 59.043 Women?s Business Ownership Help that are given to those who will make women?s business center that will train women entrepreneurs

Ill. mother charged in 2 children's shotgun deaths

Officers responding to gunfire at an Illinois apartment complex walked into what a police chief described Friday as one of the "most horrific scenes" he'd ever witnessed: A 4-year-old girl and her 5-year-old brother dead in a bedroom, killed by close-range shotgun blasts to the head.

Across the Mississippi River, their mother was arrested as she sat with a shotgun on a bench outside a St. Louis television station, having wrecked her car near the city's Gateway Arch after driving into two pedestrians. The slain children's 8-year-old brother had escaped the apartment unharmed.

Yokeia Smith, 25, was charged Friday with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of daughter Yokela Smith and son Levada Brown, whose father is in federal prison in Wisconsin for a 2006 bank robbery he says he carried out to help support the boy as a newborn.

"We don't know why this happened. We have no clue," Yokeia Smith's aunt, Martenia Jones, said Friday. "But some things happen that the human mind can't understand."

St. Clair County State's Attorney Brendan Kelly declined to discuss where Smith had gotten the shotgun seized during her arrest or confirm it was the one used to kill the children Wednesday. He also would not discuss a motive for the "brutal and frightening deaths."

"I don't know what to say in the face of such evil," Kelly said.

Relatives have said Smith was bipolar and had perhaps been prescribed medication for depression or another mental illness. Kelly would not discuss Smith's mental wherewithal Friday, saying only that "she's aware of where she is and what happened."

"There's no indication she didn't understand the consequences of her actions," he said.

Family members had previously worked to ensure the well-being of Smith's children, after two Illinois Department of Children and Family Services investigations between December 2007 and March of this year, according to the agency.

The investigations were prompted by allegations of child neglect, but there never had been reports involving physical abuse, spokesman Kendall Marlowe said.

Smith also never lost custody of her children, although police once briefly took them into protective custody, Marlowe said. The agency did not take the matter to court because some of Smith's relatives took steps to help care for the children, Marlowe said.

Smith's 8-year-old son was in protective custody Friday, authorities said.

Smith remained jailed in St. Louis. Prosecutors there charged her with armed criminal action and first-degree assault in connection with her run-in with the two pedestrians, who were taken to hospitals with injuries not considered life-threatening. Kelly said it was unclear how soon she might be returned to Illinois.

The prosecutor said Smith had a "lengthy number of charges" on her criminal ledger, including two years spent on probation after pleading guilty in January 2007 to battering a pregnant woman. Other charges Smith faced over time often involved "he said, she said types of spats with neighbors," and in many cases those charges were dismissed, Kelly said.

Neighbors who gathered outside the family's apartment building after officers found the children's bodies Wednesday night had cheered when told of Smith's arrest in St. Louis. Those approached Friday said they knew little about the woman, noting she only moved to the small two-story brick building in recent months.

"She just seemed like a normal person," said Clinton Bownes, a 30-year neighborhood resident who said he never saw Smith be aggressive or violent with her children. He said they appeared to respect her and honor her directives not to stray when they played outside.

Court records show the father of Smith's 5-year-old son had legal missteps dating to at least 2001. The elder Levada Brown served probation on drug charges before serving short jail stints for domestic battery and unlawful display of a license plate, court records show.

In 2007, Brown pleaded guilty to robbery and using a firearm during a violent crime, admitting in federal court that he was one of four men involved in a 2006 holdup that netted nearly $36,000 from an Alton credit union. Court records show he admitted he "was interested in the idea (of the robbery) because he needed money for his newborn baby, so he agreed to participate.

"He really was an unusually good fellow," his attorney in that case, Charles Stegmeyer, told The Associated Press on Friday, remembering Brown as well-spoken and cooperative with prosecutors while having "a certain charisma about him."

"Everyone ? the government, myself ? felt that just by chance he got involved in this situation," Stegmeyer said. "He was not the type of fellow who had a long history of problems."

East St. Louis' grappling with crime ? most notably gun violence ? has been well-documented for years and last month drew a visit by U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, a native of the city, for a meeting with local leaders to discuss how to blunt the problem in one of the nation's poorest cities.

Police Chief Ranadore Foggs said the struggling city of 30,000 is too often confronted with tragedy.

"I can only tell you the loss of life of these dear beautiful people hits us in the heart," Foggs added. "We as a community hurt."

Northeast mops up as Irene water recedes

As the flood waters receded, weary residents across the Northeast began pulling soggy furniture and ruined possessions onto their front lawns as they surveyed the damage wrought by Hurricane Irene.

The mess of destroyed furniture on Paul Postma's front lawn looked like a yard sale gone wrong. Over the weekend, Postma had watched as more than two feet of rain filled the bottom level of his home in Lincoln Park, N.J. On Wednesday, he was using bleach to wipe down the house's mud-soaked walls.

"None of this has value," he said. "At least not anymore."

On Sunday, President Barack Obama will visit Paterson, N.J., where currents of the Passaic River swept through the city of 150,000, flooding part of downtown and forcing the emergency evacuations of hundreds of people who likely underestimated the storm's ferocity.

National Guard helicopters continued to ferry supplies on Wednesday to mountain communities in Vermont that had no electricity, no telephone service and limited transportation in or out. Elsewhere, the massive cleanup effort was already well underway at homes, farms and businesses across the flood-scarred landscape.

Video: Floodwaters inundate parts of N.J.

At least $7.2 billion in estimated damage
Repair estimates indicated that the storm would almost certainly rank among the nation's costliest natural disasters, despite packing a lighter punch than initially feared. Even as rivers finally stopped rising in Vermont, New Jersey, and Connecticut, many communities and farm areas remained flooded, and officials said complete damage estimates were nowhere in sight.

An estimate released immediately after Irene by the Kinetic Analysis Corp., a Maryland-based consulting firm that uses computer models to estimate storm losses, put the damage at $7.2 billion in eight states and Washington, D.C. Eqecat, a catastrophe modeling company, estimated the economic losses at more than $10 billion.

Story: As Irene's waters recede, out come the sharks

That would eclipse damage from Hurricane Bob, which caused $1 billion in damage in New England in 1991 or the equivalent of about $1.7 billion today, and Hurricane Gloria, which swept through the region in 1985 and left $900 million in damage, the equivalent of $1.9 billion today, according to the Insurance Information Institute.

Dozens dead
Irene has led to the deaths of at least 45 people in 13 states. If that death toll stands, it would be comparable to 1999's Hurricane Floyd, which also struck North Carolina and charged up the East Coast into New England, causing most of its 57 deaths by inland drowning. At the time, it was the deadliest U.S. hurricane in nearly 40 years but was later dwarfed by the 1,800 deaths caused by Katrina in 2005.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo estimated the damage to his state alone at $1 billion during a visit to Prattsville, a Catskills community where 600 homes were damaged by heavy rains and floods that also shredded roads and washed out bridges.

"Upstate New York paid a terrible, terrible price for this storm," Cuomo said.

In North Carolina, where Irene blew ashore along the Outer Banks on Saturday before heading for New York and New England, Gov. Beverly Perdue said the hurricane destroyed more than 1,100 homes and caused at least $70 million in damage.

Agricultural losses were still being tallied but one county alone, Martin, was reporting more than $37 million in crop damage, Perdue said in a statement.

    1. Get the latest river forecasts and observations from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Downstream from Vermont's devastating floods, the Connecticut River hit levels not seen in 24 years, but Middletown Mayor Sebastian Giuliano said the situation was not much worse than annual spring floods caused by snowmelt.

In Simsbury, Conn., several farm fields were flooded along the Farmington River. Pumpkins and other produce could be seen floating away.

Story: No spare plane, bus seats as system returns to normal

"Farmers lost a good amount of crops," said First Selectwoman Mary Glassman.

After floods in 1955, New England states installed flood-control dams and basins that helped prevent a catastrophe along the lower Connecticut River, said Denise Ruzicka, director of inland water resources for Connecticut's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Impact on holiday weekend
The after-effects of Irene could also affect some residents' Labor Day weekend plans.

According to the Miami Herald, the AAA Carolinas auto club has predicted that around 870,000 North Carolinians will be on the road for the holiday weekend. That is about the same as last year, the auto club said.

But in North Carolina, visitors are still barred from Hatteras Island and its ferry-dependent neighbor Ocracoke Island, the Herald reported. Both islands are popular tourist destinations.

Meanwhile, it was decided in an emergency meeting Wednesday night that the Patriots-Giants preseason finale in Foxborough, Mass., on Thursday night would go ahead as planned, despite the effects of Irene. Gillette Stadium got power back Monday evening before many other parts of the area, the Boston Herald reported.

Lights out
Power outages persisted across the region, with some of the largest in Connecticut, where more than 284,000 homes and businesses were still in the dark Wednesday, and Virginia, where 232,500 customers had no lights.

Red Tape: Navigating tricky insurance-claim waters

In the ski resort town of Killington, Vt., residents were volunteering to use their lawn tractors to help remove mud and debris. People with electricity were letting neighbors without water use their showers. One question was whether the camaraderie would wear thin before things returned to normal.

Karen Dalury, who did not have power at her home, said she had been eating vegetables from her garden and storing some in a neighbor's freezer.

"For now it's fine," she said, "but who knows how long this is going to continue."

Vermont does not yet have cost estimates for damages. Some 260 roads in the state were damaged or washed away entirely. Tourism is the state's second largest industry after agriculture.

"We're still gathering that information and assessing it," said Vicky Parra Tebbetts, senior vice president of the Vermont Chamber of Commerce. "I don't anticipate whole towns are going to be stranded and cut off from the rest of the world for months on end, but the long-term repair of roads is another issue."

With Irene gone, scientists turned their attention to the open Atlantic Ocean, where Tropical Storm Katia was gaining strength and forecast to become a hurricane by early next week. Meteorologists said it was too soon to determine where it might go.

The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.

Android accessory review: BodyGuardz Armor Carbon Fiber for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

BodyGuardz Armor

I'm a firm supporter of the opinion that most electronic devices are better naked than protected by a case. Yes, I've heard all the advice otherwise, and yes, I know that nothing is completely scratch proof. Heck, just last week I shattered my Thunderbolt when I absentmindedly perched it on my sink, turning it into a poster child for the dangers of case-less smartphones. That said, few things can change my mind. I'd rather commit to being more careful than hiding my expensive new device under a cheap looking cover.

Will the BodyGuardz Armor Carbon Fiber for my Galaxy Tab 10.1 convert my way of thinking? Let's find out, after the break.

Expert to help Ind. fair with stage collapse funds (AP)

INDIANAPOLIS ? Indiana officials turned Wednesday to the man who oversaw victims compensation for the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the BP oil spill for help deciding who will receive money donated to help victims of a deadly stage collapse at the state fair.

Indiana State Fair Commission Chairman Andre Lacy said at a news conference that victims compensation specialist Kenneth Feinberg is donating his services for the effort to distribute the money "as soon as we can."

Feinberg will help the commission develop a plan for distributing the money, including determining who's eligible and a claims process.

Seven people died and at least four dozen were injured Aug. 13 after high winds toppled the stage scaffolding onto a crowd awaiting a performance by the country band Sugarland at the Indiana State Fair.

About $263,000 has been donated so far to the State Fair Remembrance Fund, which was created two days after the stage collapse. That does not include about $554,000 in concert proceeds donated by the bands Maroon 5 and Train.

Donations ranged from $124 raised by a two girls at a Speedway lemonade stand to $65,000 donated by Indiana Pacers owner Herb Simon and his team, said Brian Payne, chief executive of the Central Indiana Community Foundation.

While the foundation will continue to accept donations for the victims, the money will be paid out through a special state fair relief fund that Gov. Mitch Daniels authorized by executive order, Lacy said.

Payments handled this way should be distributed more quickly because the state doesn't face the same regulatory restrictions as the foundation, Payne said.

Feinberg also will help the Indiana attorney general's office devise a system for resolving legal claims resulting from the collapse, officials said.

Indiana law caps damages that can be recovered in lawsuits against the state to $700,000 per person or $5 million total per incident.

"We want to move to pay the full $5 million that the state's law allows as soon as an equitable formula can be devised. My goal is to focus on the needs of victims and their families while minimizing the expense of lengthy and costly litigation," Attorney General Greg Zoeller said in a news release.

Victims who received benefits from the 9/11 fund and the BP spill fund had to sign waivers promising not to sue, but Lacy said the State Fair Relief Fund was completely separate from any legal compensation, and its sole purpose was to get charitable donations to the victims.

"We really care to do this as best and as right as we can," he said.

Lacy did not answer when a reporter asked whether state officials had considered waiving the state's $5 million liability cap.
