Microsoft wants a Windows 8 iTunes app, of course, but Apple's not so keen

According to a report at CNN Money, Microsoft has "laid out the welcome mat" to Apple in order to try and convince Cupertino to produce a Windows 8 iTunes app. However, Windows 8 users shouldn't hold their breath that one will appear anytime soon, as Microsoft CFO Tami Reller explains:

You shouldn't expect an iTunes app on Windows 8 any time soon. iTunes is in high demand. The welcome mat has been laid out. It's not for lack of trying.

iTunes is still perfectly functional in the 'traditional' desktop environment of Windows 8, for that you just have to head over to the iTunes website and download a copy. Without a Windows 8 app though, users of Windows RT tablets can't use iTunes, and even tablet users with a full pro edition of Windows 8 will be left with a potentially sub-optimal experience. Could you use the current version of iTunes on a touchscreen and be happy with it?

Tom Warren at The Verge writes that sources at Microsoft have indicated to them that iTunes is one of the most searched for applications in the Windows 8 store, and that the company has actively been trying to secure a Windows 8 version. But Apple doesn't seem interested.

We want to hear from you, Windows 8 users. Are you crying out for a proper Windows 8 iTunes application, or are you OK making do with what's currently available?
