Q: We?re looking to retire in about a year and this summer we will be spending some time in what we hope will be our chosen state to look around. We?re interested in two towns?they are about 45 minutes apart. It makes sense to us to use a Realtor from each location/since they better know their territory? what is the best thing to do in this situation? Thank you.
?Dee, Illinois
A: Actually, you?d be better off to sign with a Buyer?s Agent. Then you have a committed Realtor to help you with everything and not have more of your personal info out there than needed. We?re used to driving!

A: This happens to us quite a bit in my market-Williamsburg VA. People looking to retire often are shopping for the right place. Using an agent in each location is fine, because you do want to work with an agent who is more in tune with their specific market. If the agent lives in between the two, they may be familiar with both or belong to an MLS serving both but they may not be an area expert. I can sell homes in Virginia Beach which is only an hour away, but I wouldn?t even try to help someone that far away. If you find an agent who says they are an expert in two locations ask for a list of properties they?ve listed and or sold in both! But when you settle on a particular location and ?hire? an agent to represent you-you can do that with only one REALTOR.
