Chrysler Recalls Several Vehicle Models for Malfunctions ...

Chrysler made an announcement this week that it will issue a recall for over 500,000 vehicles in the next few months. The recall will affect several vehicles from their product line including Jeep Cherokees, Jeep Commanders, Jeep Wranglers, and Dodge Rams.

Jeep Cherokees built between 2005-2010 and Jeep Commanders built between 2006-2010 present with an electrical problem in the circuit board affecting the transfer case. The issue can emit a signal that can shift the transmission from park to neutral, allowing the sport utility vehicles to roll away at any time. This is a dangerous issue that has already caused 26 accidents.

Transfer cases are a part of four-wheel or all-wheel drive systems that connect the front and rear axles through the drive shafts. The voluntary recall will reprogram the vehicles? software to fix the error at no cost to owners. Chrysler expects the recall to begin in June.

Jeep Wranglers built between 2007-2011 have a safety issue concerning the driver-side airbags not deploying properly in a crash, which means they may not effectively prevent injury. A similar recall will begin in May to have these replaced in the vehicles free of charge.

Dodge Rams?may present with a malfunctioning windshield defroster, that can lead to a buildup of moisture or ice on the front glass. This problem can seriously obstruct the driver?s view, leading to decreased vision and possibly an accident.

At Bergener & Associates, we have seen many injuries that were caused by defectively designed products. A defective design claim argues that a mistake was made in the design that makes the product inherently dangerous. Even when used as intended, the vehicles here could still malfunction and lead to disaster.

It is the responsibility of the manufacturers to ensure that consumers who purchase their products are kept reasonably safe from harm. If you or someone you know has been injured because of a failing vehicle, or other type of product, give our product liability lawyers a call at 1-800-881-2021.
