Why No One Listens To You | Exceed Your ... - Self Improvement Tips

getting attention

You?re probably dying for attention and you probably won?t like to hear the truth, but the truth is that most people do a poor job of selling themselves. That?s right, they probably would not know how to get someone?s attention even if their life depended on them.

I like to label these people as the ?F rated seller?. For my whole life, I have been selling myself in hope of trying to make others listen to me, and I am finally just getting it right. You on the other hand, you may be that F rated seller that I just described. Or you may not be.

Being a better seller is something that we all need. Unless you are okay with what what you have, (most of us aren?t)then you?re likely going to want to hear this.

The most annoying type of person that comes up to my mind is salesmen. Not all of them are annoying, but most are. Some even do this kind of type job without even knowing it, and I consider those to be the best. Unfortunately your typical salesmen aren?t going to be like this.

I was in the market for a new cellphone and I ran into your average typical salesmen, the F rated kind. I had to listen to a bunch of redundant statements that were magically made up out of nowhere?amazing.

Let me clarify one thing. Back when I was a salesman, I learned that selling yourself or something works better when you indirectly imply it. You do want to imply the message after all, but for goodness sake, some people need to make it less obvious.

The best way to get someone?s attention is to trick them into believing that you aren?t selling. Seems counter-intuitive, but when was the last time you were more convinced to buy something when it was a mere recommendation as opposed to ?BUY THIS NOW! BUY THIS NOW!??

I ended up getting a Sony Xperia S from a word of mouth recommendation. Little did that person know that he was going to make Sony that much richer, and he wasn?t even a sales rep for them either.

Or maybe he was that good of a salesman that I was the fool who got tricked into buying the phone? Guess we will never know, will we?

The reason you are an ?F rated seller? is because you are the kind that say a bunch of nothing to make it into something. You are the type who can?t get others? attention because you scream them to ?BUY IT NOW!?

Presenting yourself at the right amount will get your foot in the door and possibly trust. Ever heard of the term ?trying too hard?? You, my readers, are trying way too hard, and it makes people believe you less.

Sometimes, less can be more.

To get others to listen, believe, and trust you, here are a few things to avoid.

Are You Mark Zuckerburg?

Unless you have inherent the mastermind of Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg, and you wear jeans and t-shirts to business meetings like him, then you are given a rare exception.

Apparently people still judge a book by its cover. You may not be the brightest individual, or you may be the next Einstein. No one really knows who you are right from the start. But if you dare sell yourself as a gifted genius, you need to look like one.

Yes, it is unfair how Mark Zuckerberg gets to present himself like the way he wants to. But life is unfair and you need to deal with it sooner or later.? Preferably sooner though.?

Where?s The Shut Off Switch?!

We all like to get our points across, but salesman have a bad habit of trying to get every last words out. Where?s the off switch on this guy?

Give room to let the other person talk for crying out loud. Even people who blather on about useless things may not sound as historical because they keep it at a limit. In other words, just get to the point.

You should also try listening for a chance. It will allow you to learn more about the person and let you accommodate them better.

know what you're talking aboutDo You Know Your Stuff?

You?d be surprised that people are more willing to listen when you aren?t talking complete non-sense. Your own dog can see this a mile away. And if you don?t have a dog, get one so that he can see it for himself.

The more knowledgeable that you are in a subject, the more interesting stuff that you will have to say. Even if it?s the most boring subject to talk about (this is subjective), you will always be able to make up something about it. And no, I don?t mean making up non-sense.

Knowing what you?re talking about and making it interesting would make it hard for anyone to not believe you. It?s almost as if they are obliged to, but here?s the thing: they actually do want to listen to what you have to say because you sound smart. And we all trust smart people like the one on the right, right?

A few salesmen rarely not act like the typical F rated ones. We knows that their intention is to sell, but most of them do not even know what they are selling. On top of that, they can?t make it any less obvious that they?re hungry for your money.

You now know what to do to avoid being that ?F rated seller?. Now take this same concept and apply it to yourself if you find people not listening to you.
